Summer Reading Program 2011
The LTS Summer Reading Program supports the vision of the school by encouraging students to explore perspectives and situations in three formalized reading experiences over the summer. While the English department oversees this process, the reading options are culled with input from educational listing resources and the staff at the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester. The books on the grade level lists supplement the knowledge and topics of study in other disciplines as well.
GRADES 6-10
Students in grades 6-10 have three separate deadlines: first, they are expected to select a book from the appropriate list (supplied by the school) and submit a book review (see book review format in booklist and also attached to this webpage) by July 6; second, they are expected to select another book from the appropriate list (supplied by the school) and submit question sheet responses (see question sheets in booklist and also attached to this webpage) by August 1; finally, students must read the required book for their grade level by the start of school. Students in a different English course than typical grade level should read the book expected for the course they are taking. Students will complete quizzes, projects, papers or tests that will count as an assessment for the required book in the first days of the school year.
GRADES 11-12
Students in grades 11-12 have two deadlines: first, they are expected to select two books from the appropriate list (supplied by the school) and submit a comparison question sheet (see comparison question sheet format in booklist and also attached to this webpage) by August 1; next, students must read the required book for their English course by the start of school. Students will complete an essay test that will count as an assessment for the required book in the first days of the school year.
