Upper School

The Upper School student body is a comfortable mix of students who have been in the school since 6th grade (called “lifers”) and those who have joined the school at different points. Students from various nations represent a growing international population drawn to Long Trail School by the educational opportunity, the emphasis on international studies, and the availability of coursework in English for speakers of other languages.

Academic, personal, and college guidance are the hallmarks of the Upper School experience. Our college guidance counselor carefully charts the course that culminates in appropriate choices and college acceptances for each senior. An academic advisor works with each student throughout the four years and is typically a good friend, role model, and counselor as well. School spirit reveals itself in various activities. Whether in the arts, athletics, service learning, student council or a club, every student can find a rewarding niche in the Upper School. While the Upper School years are academically challenging, our graduates agree that the LTS experience is personally rewarding and has prepared them well for college.

By design, our teachers remove the scaffolding used to develop academic habits, skills, student-directed learning, experimentation, discussion & debate as students progress through the Upper School curriculum. The ultimate goal of the Upper School is to foster independent individuals who know how to think and are prepared and excited for the world beyond high school.
