Homestay Boarding

LTStudies International students live with local homestay families associated with the school community. Education for international students at Long Trail School pairs academics with the experience of an American lifestyle. This approach culminates in significant cultural awareness and a rich educational experience.

English language immersion is the most important academic support a homestay family provides. There is no better way to learn a language. The homestay family provides additional academic support for the international student, explaining homework and quickly addressing language and cultural issues. This immediate feedback decreases frustration and enhances learning.

International students applying to American colleges can also be aided by their homestay family. Navigating the college admission process is a formidable challenge for any student, let alone one who is undoubtedly unaware of the application complexities. The homestay parent can support their international student as they work with the LTS College Counselor.

Socially, the homestay family completes the international student’s American experience. The family offers companionship and familiarity far from home. For example, the family cheers on the student at sporting events, listens to a concert performance, or views a presentation. This enhances the international student’s sense of accomplishment and increases the sense of being part of a larger community.

Homestay parents also enable the student to participate in entertainment opportunities and become familiar with the immediate area. They are able to participate in American traditions, not as a visitor, but as a family member. Equally important, homestays allow a two-way sharing of cultures and traditions, greatly enriching the homestay family’s life.

The personal relationship nourished between the international student and the homestay family develops into a lasting friendship. Many times, the homestay family continues to provide emotional support, a feeling of “home base,” for international students, well after they have left Long Trail School. When finally returning home, the student may feel they have another place to call home.

LTStudies International provides an individualized educational experience beneficial and enriching to both the international student and the homestay family.
