Community Festival at LTS will be here before we know it!  The day-long event, held on Saturday, September 25 promises to be bigger and better than ever. In addition to hosting the Middle School Fall Classic Soccer Invitational Tournament, we will have entertainment, activities, Karaoke, a Bounce House, the popular LTPA concession,and much more. The fun starts at 9 am with the first game and continues on until the last goal is scored around 3 pm!

LTS WELCOMES NEW FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATOR

Long Trail School is adding to its rank of teachers this fall. Jennifer Jabareen will take on the role as head of the English for Speakers of Other Languages program. LTStudies International continues to grow and this year LTS welcomes fifteen international students, ten from China and one each from Germany, Chile, Korea, Honduras, and Denmark.

Stephanie Light will join the school as Head Librarian. Light comes to Vermont from the Lake Placid School District in New York.

Already a faculty member at Long Trail, John Rushing will transition to a full-time position this year. Rushing, now in his third year at Long Trail, will continue to teach PE to middle school students and has added to his responsibilities a much anticipated upper school PE elective. To complete his teaching load, he will teach an earth science class as well as a section of 9th grade English.

Finally, the school welcomes Justin Bendall to the administrative team as Dean of Students. Bendall comes to LTS from Bromley Brook School where he served as Director of Community Life. Long Trail School is delighted to welcome these new faces to the community.

SUMMER GRADE LEVEL GATHERINGS ARE IN FULL SWING!

Summer Grade level gatherings are in full swing!  The 9th grade picnic/concert on the green in Manchester was a blast and very well attended.  Incoming 6th graders had a ball tie dying and scavenger hunting on Saturday evening and the 7th grade gathered last night at the D’Olivo’s in Manchester.  Next up- the 8th grade gathering at the Telfer home in Tinmouth on Sunday the 14th, followed by the 11th grade get-together at the Suitor’s on Sunday, the 22nd and the 10th grade picnic at Manchester Rec Park on Wednesday, the 25th.  As is tradition, the senior class will gather the evening before classes resume. Good times all around!!

LTS SINGERS JOIN VILLAGE HARMONY

Malindi Chesnut-Tangerman and Chris Giannitti, both seniors at Long Trail School are part of the elite singing group Village Harmony.   The travelling troupe consists of 24 talented singers presenting “thrilling harmony singing traditions from Georgia, Bulgaria and America, plus early baroque works.”  The international known group has gained an impressive reputation for their study and performance programs as well as their professional recordings. Audiences can enjoy their next local performance on Saturday, August 21 at 7:30 pm in Rutland at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. SWARTHOUT AND BARNARD IMMERSED IN LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Kelley Swarthout, Spanish teacher at Long Trail School is currently directing the Spanish program at the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy at Green Mountain College in Poultney. Swarthout, who has a PhD in Latin American Literature, spent the past 10 years teaching Spanish language, culture, and literature at Middlebury College, Colgate University, and currently teaches at Long Trail.
LTS Junior Isabelle Barnard is attending the rigorous language immersion program that combines decades of languages expertise from Middlebury College and Monterey Institute of International Studies.  Placed in the highest level of the program (Level 6), Isabelle has been taking a combined language/literature AP prep course and doing a variety of interesting electives, from folkloric dance to literature.
Students in this program are required to make a commitment to exclusively speak, write, and read their studied language for the entire summer session. Long Trail applauds their year-round commitment to World Languages!
