This course introduces the anatomy and physiology of the human body and uses student inquiry to explore how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students learn about various cause-and-effect relationships that determine how different body systems function. Students gain an appreciation the body’s feedback mechanisms to maintain homeostasis. Other topics include the scientific method, cell structure, the body’s major organ systems, reproduction, substance abuse, genetics, and disease. The course continues to develop key science skills of designing investigations, collecting and analyzing data, and using evidence to make scientific arguments.
