For over thirty years Long Trail School has distinguished itself among its peers as a forward-thinking school with high standards of excellence. The success of our program is evident in our graduates who have attended some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. We count among our nearly 300 alumni a diverse group of professionals who model the passion and creativity that we seek to inspire in every student and who understand the value of an independent school education.
The dawn of the 21st Century requires us to look again at our school and its programs to ensure we maintain our position as one of the leading educational institutions in the region. We are in the midst of a worldwide transition from the Information Age, which rewarded knowledge and its application, to the Conceptual Age, which emphasizes creativity, invention, and big-picture thinking. Today’s students are preparing for careers that will most certainly demand a different set of skills, a different kind of thinking.
Long Trail School’s Five-Year Strategic Plan prepares us to meet these challenges. Its focus on teaching and learning is central to the development of our School’s educational philosophy; our vision—to kindle intellectual and creative passion—defines our belief that all students have within them an innate enthusiasm for learning that we must help them discover and develop. Our emphasis on “learning how to think,” both critically and creatively, will guide a comprehensive review of our already rigorous curriculum. Furthermore, we recognize that we have a responsibility to continue to educate our students to be productive and concerned citizens of an increasingly more complex world. As such, we have chosen to develop a more global posture to enhance our school culture and to provide our students with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful and confident citizens of the world.
