Home / Important Letter from the Board of Trustees

June 14, 2017

Dear Long Trail School Community,

During the Board of Trustees meeting held last evening, Steven Dear announced that, due to some recent health concerns for him, the Board would need to move up its plans for a new Head of School search by one year.  Steven’s doctors have recommended a change of lifestyle in an effort to mitigate the effect of these issues.  It is with a mixture of sadness and great appreciation that the Board of Trustees of Long Trail School begins this process.  Accordingly, the Trustees will begin a formal search with the aid of a national search firm. Steven has served this school as a parent, Trustee, Board Chair and ultimately Head of School. He has played a critical role in establishing LTS as a leader within the independent school community.

Steven will be involved in the search process for his successor to ensure a smooth transition for our school. He has agreed to stay on in full capacity as Head through December 30, giving the Trustees time to be thoughtful, thorough and deliberate in their quest for our new, exceptional leader. The Board is committed to the considerations and concerns of all constituents and will begin this process by establishing a formal search committee within our school community. Steven will be here to assist the new Head as he or she takes over.

The Trustees appreciate the opportunity Steven has given the school to take our time, allowing us to preserve everything that makes our school such a wonderful educational community. Long Trail is poised for great things as we look to enhance our arts experience, grow our athletic program and expand our International Baccalaureate Programme curriculum. Our sound financial situation and our growing student population speak to the magnetism of our success.

We are confident that the school’s stellar asset of its devoted faculty and staff will facilitate a smooth transition once the search is complete. We cannot thank Steven enough for his dedication, enthusiasm and guidance over his years with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, my fellow Trustees and, of course, Steven.

Sincerely,

Tamatha B. Blanchard

Board Chair
