School Traditions and Events
There is never a dull moment at Long Trail! Numerous events take place throughout the school year:
Fall Classic and Community Day:
The extended local community comes together for the annual Middle School Fall Classic Soccer Tournament and Community Festival. While soccer games take place continuously on Hunter Field and the practice field, our students and parents participate in activities for all ages, from face-painting and basketball shootouts to karaoke and pottery making. Attendees enjoy concessions from the talented Long Trail Parents Association and festival activities hosted by Student Ambassadors.
Holiday Party:
On the last day of school before Holiday vacation, our community takes time to celebrate. Each advisory group participates in themed gift exchanges after sharing breakfast together, and then the whole school comes together for our annual Holiday Talent Show.
Airband:
With a sell-out crowd every year, Airband is an event that embodies the spirit of LTS. Numerous acts compete for the title of Airband Champion in this fundraiser for the Prom Committee. Students choreograph elaborate lip-synching routines to songs or medleys of songs and are judged on their stage presence, originality, costume and set design, and creativity- but not musical talent! All acts are cheered on as the participants put on funny, engaging, and epic performances for the audience. Visit www.youtube.com/longtrailairband to view past performances.
Cabin Fever Week:
LTS believes that having fun and learning go hand in hand and every year we break up the doldrums of Winter with our Cabin Fever Week. As the name implies, it’s a chance for students and faculty to spice things up a little with different games and activities. Generally, each day has a theme and everyone is encouraged to dress in that theme; years past have included: PJ Day (always a favorite), Red/White Day, Twin (dress like someone else) and Superhero Day. Monday Assembly that week is reserved for a special Red/White competition and, often, that Friday is a non-academic day, filled with various events.
End of Year Fun-Fest:
The last day of the year is always a celebration of all that was accomplished that year. An award ceremony recognizing student achievement starts the day off and is followed by a festival with food and games. In years past, we’ve had: a rock-climbing wall, multiple bounce-houses, carnival games and our annual Red/White soccer game. To go along with all of that there is good food, cotton candy, Sno-cones, popcorn and other goodies. Students receive their yearbooks that day as well and spend time signing for all of their friends before saying goodbye for the summer.
