Service Learning
Long Trail is committed to instilling in its students a sense of social justice and giving back to the community. Holding true to our Core Values of Social Responsibility and Stewardship, the school community annually joins together to participate in a service learning project.
This year, students and faculty will reflect on Stewardship: caring for our community and our resources. In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, Long Trail is focusing on giving back to local areas that were particularly hard hit by the storm. In addition to fundraising, collections of goods, and volunteer efforts by groups throughout the year, the entire school will spend one school day together volunteering and rebuilding our community.
The goals of the Service Learning program at Long Trail are two-fold: firstly, to meaningfully contribute to local towns and organizations, and secondly, to give our students a deep understanding of the work that they are doing through discussion and reflection. By engaging our students in this way, we hope to develop a life-long dedication to service.
