Extracurricular Arts
DRAMA
“Drama is open to all interested students and is intended to foster creative growth and technical know-how in a fun, supportive environment,” LTS Drama Director Tracey Wesley explained of the Long Trail philosophy. “Students are encouraged to participate in all areas of the theatre while building self confidence and developing camaraderie with their fellow thespians. We are blessed by the generosity and talent of many community organizations and individuals.”
Everyone at Long Trail takes pride in the outstanding quality of the drama productions, put on by student actors and supported by student technicians. Long Trail is widely recognized for its dramatic excellence. It has participated in the Vermont Drama Council Regional One-Act Festival since 1990 and has qualified for the State Festival five times. Long Trail was also one of 50 American high schools selected to participate in the Summer 2005 Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, the largest performing arts festival in the world.
In the last weeks before opening night, as an actor, technician or stagehand, students are busy until late afternoon putting the finishing touches on their performances.

MUSIC, DANCE and VISUAL ARTS
In addition to the numerous course offerings in the Arts, students can also participate in extracurricular ensembles and teams. These, along with a multitude of artists in residence and special workshops, create a diverse and rich experience for students.
LTStrings
This ensemble brings together players of strings instruments to practice and perform a variety of classical music selections, helping each player improve their skills on his or her preferred instrument.
Varsity A Capella
Taking place during Enrichment Classes, the Varsity A Capella group is open to Upper School singers who are selected through auditions. The group selects, arranges, and performs a variety of songs throughout the year.
Green Mountain District Festival and All State Chorus
Musicians and singers may audition to participate in these events. Long Trail has a long tradition of participants in the festivals.
US Dance Team
The co-ed Upper School Dance Team selects music and choreographs dances to present at competitions with other Vermont high schools. Each team must perform in two of the three following categories: Hip-Hop, Pom, and Jazz. LTS generally competes in Hip-Hop and Pom.
MS Dance Team
The co-ed Middle School Dance Team is open to any interested participants in grades 6-8. During practices, which occur during Enrichment Classes once a week, dancers develop their technical skills and work together to choreograph dances to music they have selected. Under the supervision of a faculty coach and a member of the Upper School Dance Team, the dancers prepare a hip-hop dance to perform in competition or at an exhibition.
