The Long Trail Day
No day is typical at Long Trail! Class schedules rotate daily and the school day runs from 8 am to 2:30 pm Monday thru Thursday and 8 am to 12:30 pm on Friday.
Every day begins with Advisories, a small group of students and a faculty advisor. Each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday all students and faculty gather for a Long Trail tradition, Morning Meeting. Led by members of the Senior Class, Morning Meeting brings the school community together for the purpose of special announcements, amusing anecdotes, drama and musical performances, contests, and celebrations of achievement.
A morning break between classes provides students with the opportunity to recharge and refuel prior to the remainder of the a.m. schedule. Midway throughout the day, students may enjoy lunch in either the Hunter or Whalen Common Rooms. Both common rooms are equipped with refrigerators to store food and microwaves and stoves to heat food. Long Trail’s School Store is open and sells a variety of snacks as well as hot and cold lunch options.
Afternoon classes, and on Thursday and Friday, Long Trail’s Enrichment Classes complete the Long Trail day. Dismissal is at 2:30 pm (12:30 on Friday). At the conclusion of the school day, some Long Trail School students are picked up or board the busses; however, most remain for drama rehearsals, athletic practices, to receive additional support from teachers, or simply to “hang out” and socialize with friends. Students in grades 6-8 who remain after school must attend Homework Club which is comprised of a supervised study hall followed by an organized activity period.
