Student Academic Field Trips
LTS students and faculty journey far and wide, seeking educational and enriching activities beyond the Green Mountains of Dorset.
FALL ACADEMIC FIELD TRIPS
In the fall all students participate in the annual fall academic trips. These trips are a great time to bond with peers.
6th and 7th Grade Overnight
The 6th and 7th graders have a lock-in at LTS. Past activities include hiking, guest speakers, team building and a visit to the New England Center for Circus Arts.
8th-11th Grade Overnight
In 2017 8th through 11th grades will travel to YMCA Camp Chingachgook on Lake George. Thursday activities include hiking, archery, low ropes course, survival techniques, canoeing, swimming. On Friday the students will head into Lake George for shopping, beach time and other attractions.
12th Grade Trip
12th graders will head to Ocean City, NJ for a few days at the beach.
SPRING ACADEMIC FIELD TRIPS
Each spring students in grades 6-10 are offered grade level academic trips. These trips are an extra cost (grade level fundraisers offset some of the costs) and are optional.
6th and 7th Grade: Boston or NYC
The 6th and 7th grade classes travel together on a yearly trip alternating between New York City and Boston in April.
8th Grade: Montreal, Canada
The 8th grade class travels to to Montreal, Canada.
9th Grade: Washington, DC
The 9th grade class spends all year preparing for their trip to our nation’s capitol. Once in D.C., the students visit a variety of national landmarks, from Arlington Cemetery to the White House.
10th Grade: Germany and Spain
10th grade students participate in an exchange program with students in Germany and Spain. In the fall, Long Trail sophomores host the German and Spanish students for two weeks while they attend classes at LTS. In the Spring, our students stay with their host “sibling” for two weeks.
National Parks Expedition
Every other year History teacher Tim Smith takes a group of students to explore the National Parks of the USA.
