The Australian Aborigines believe that music is in the universe seeking to be heard. How might intelligent and sensitive performer, composer and listener prepare to hear it? This class teaches how to recognize and articulate musical elements realized in diverse examples of music making. It seeks to foster curiosity in and sensitivity to the musical worlds which surround us. Topics include the fundamental elements of music, conventions of Western music notation, ear training, functional harmony, and musical genres and styles.
