The Power of Comedy introduces students to the world of comic theatre from the beginning of theatrical traditions in the ancient world to present day comic forms. The primary focus of the class is acting comedy, and specifically, the acting methods of Italian Renaissance commedia dell’arte, the grandparent of modern improvisation. Students will perform in class and in public in “commedia style” in a play by Goldoni or Moliere.
