school busLTS students and faculty journey far and wide, seeking educational and enriching activities beyond the Green Mountains of Dorset.

In the fall all students participate in the annual fall academic trips. These trips are a great time to bond with peers.

Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14
Fall Trip Days are a combined opportunity for students to explore college life and to foster community through playing and eating together. We want all students over the course of their LTS careers to be exposed to a range of college types.

Thursday: Director of College & Career Counseling Scott Magrath has secured visits and tours at area colleges for our students:

  • Grades 11 & 12– Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or Siena College and University of Albany
  • Grades 8, 9 & 10– Williams College and MA College of Liberal Arts
  • Grades 6 & 7– Castleton University & swimming and games at Lake St. Catherine

Students will return to take part in the LTPA Welcome Back Picnic from 5:00-7:00. Please note there are no buses on Thursday afternoon.  Families need to pick their children up from LTS on Thurs., Sept. 13 by 7:00 pm. We invite all families to join us at LTS for the picnic.

Seniors will have a special dinner at the Head’s House.

Friday: We have planned a field day with some really great games for color team competition: Bumper Soccer, Laser Tag and an all-school art project to be displayed in Whalen Common Room when completed.  Buses will depart at 12:30 pm.

After field day, seniors will head to Lake George for an overnight experience.

Each spring students in grades 6-10 are offered grade level academic trips.  These trips are an extra cost (grade level fundraisers offset some of the costs) and are optional.

6th and 7th Grade: Boston or NYC
The 6th and 7th grade classes travel together on a yearly trip alternating between New York City and Boston in April.

8th Grade: Montreal, Canada
The 8th grade class travels to to Montreal, Canada.

9th Grade: Washington, DC
The 9th grade class spends all year preparing for their trip to our nation’s capitol. Once in D.C., the students visit a variety of national landmarks, from Arlington Cemetery to the White House.

10th Grade: Germany and Italy
10th grade students participate in an exchange program with students in Germany and Italy.  Long Trail sophomores host the German and Itallian students while they attend classes at LTS.  In the Spring, our students stay with their host “sibling” for two weeks.
