Athletics

ScottMLong Trail School firmly believes that sport is an extension of the classroom experience.  It is an opportunity to teach student-athletes about sportsmanship and respect and reinforce Long Trail’s Core Values.  Athletics provides our student-athletes the chance to have fun, learn, socialize and to not only find their limits but also to push them in a healthy manner.

We wholeheartedly feel that every student, regardless of ability, skill or experience, should have the opportunity to participate and compete. There is a spot for every student-athlete on a team as we do not have try-outs and never “cut” an athlete from a squad.  Long Trail strives to offer a variety of sports to accommodate the diverse athletic interests of its students, and is proud to offer 12 interscholastic sports.

Long Trail’s qualified coaching staff is comprised of very experienced teachers, parents, and local community members.  In addition to knowledge in their specific sport, our coaches are also certified through the Vermont Principals Association (VPA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).  Our coaches are viewed as teachers of both the game and Long Trail principles.

In addition to our interscholastic teams, there are many additional opportunities for physical activity.  Hiking the Long Trail, weekly skiing and riding at Bromley Mountain, fitness classes, mountain biking, and Ultimate Frisbee are just some of the fun ways that Long Trail students spend their free time.  The Athletic Office continues to search for additional athletic opportunities for students.

Sincerely,

Scott Magrath
