International Baccalaureate Programme

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) is a rigorous and highly respected pre-university program offered by select schools throughout the world. In 2010, Long Trail School became the first school in Vermont to offer this exceptional, advanced learning educational option and we remain the only independent school in the region offering the IB. This program aligns closely with Long Trail School’s educational philosophy, guiding students to become self-motivated learners and to engage in diverse learning experiences including the arts, athletics, and service learning.

Why IB?

An International Baccalaureate education focuses on each student as a whole person. Thus, the IB programme addresses not only cognitive development but social, emotional and physical well-being. The aim is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people with adaptable skills to tackle society’s complex challenges and who will help to make it a better, more peaceful world.  Developing a global perspective builds empathic understanding and prepares students for civic engagement. By learning to act as interpreters instead of consumers of culture, students think for themselves rather than accept the way information is presented to them.

Studies by the IB show IB diploma graduates
