Lillian R. ‘29 100-Word Horror Story to Be Published in Fright Club

Lillian R. ’29 will soon see her writing in print after her 100-word horror story, “What’s Shining Through My Window,” was selected for publication in Fright Club 2026: Terrifying Tales.

The Fright Club writing competition, organized by Young Writers in conjunction with middle and high schools across the country, challenges students to create an original spooky “mini saga” in no more than 100 words. Writers are encouraged to craft stories filled with tension, atmosphere, and suspense, with submissions ranging from creepy and mysterious to downright scary.

Lillian’s English teacher, Kim Rizio, recognized her talent for creative writing and submitted her story to the competition in June. Lillian’s work was selected for the upcoming collection, which showcases the writing of young authors from across the United States.

Writing an entire story in just 100 words is no small challenge. With such a limited word count, every detail matters, from the opening line to the final word. The competition encourages students to develop their creativity while finding concise and compelling ways to tell a complete story.

For Lillian, the experience offers an exciting opportunity to see her imagination and writing shared with readers beyond the Long Trail School community.
