Spruce is a native Vermonter who graduated from Long Trail in ‘99 and went on to pursue a career in environmental science, which took him across the West and all over the world studying polar regions and climate change. He is excited to return to his roots, share his scientific expertise, foster curiosity, and instill a sense of stewardship for the natural world. Spruce has over 20 years of experience in curriculum design and teaching at the secondary and collegiate levels in geology, chemistry, hydrology, atmospheric, and environmental science, and has a personal interest in addressing the climate crisis through education, community engagement, and sustainability. He is committed to delivering an experiential, hands-on education for his students and is an avid outdoor enthusiast with experience leading field courses, international trips, and outdoor education.
