Hercilia was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She obtained a B.A. in Political Theory from Georgetown University, and a M.A. in Spanish Literature from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has since worked in both academic and editorial settings, most recently as a literary translator for publishing houses such as Simon & Schuster, and HarperCollins Publishers.
